Pabst Blue Ribbon Is Debuting Its Own Whiskey for Summer 2019

The next time you order a PBR at a bar, you might have to clarify what you mean: Pabst Blue Ribbon will soon release its very own whiskey, according to Food & Wine.

In addition to the beloved, easily crushable light beer, the venerable brewer will release its whiskey sometime this summer, although the official announcement has not yet been made.

 

 

The news came to light thanks to a quirk in U.S. alcohol laws: Companies are required to get the labels for booze bottles approved by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau ahead of their release. When the labels get the green light, they become public. This new label was submitted by Michigan’s New Holland Brewing Co., which is partnering with PBR to distill the whiskey (the two companies already have a partnership for beer distribution), according to MiBiz.

Right now, all the info we have on the PBR whiskey comes from the label itself. It’ll be made from 52 percent corn, 27 percent malted barley, 17 percent wheat, and 4 percent rye. It clocks in at 80 proof, and it will be sold in 750-milliliter bottles. The label also notes that the whiskey will be “aged 5 seconds,” which hints that this could be a clear, un-aged “white dog” whiskey, according to Food & Wine.
