Exercise – An Aid to Weight Loss

Many of us have spare pounds around our waist and other areas, and some go on a diet to try and shed some of these unwanted pounds; but how many of us also do regular exercise in order to lose inches and pounds. In order to burn that fat and achieve weight loss we need a good diet, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

So what kind of exercises should we be doing? Do we need to join a gym in order to burn fat fast? It can be useful, but is not absolutely necessary. But did you know that it is just as important (if not more) to also do weight training?

Having muscle mass helps you burn more fat, so weight training is an essential part of weight loss. Extra muscle burns more energy than body fat at rest, so if you develop more muscle and have a higher muscle to fat ratio than before, your body will naturally burn extra energy and more stored fat as a result. Even after you have finished exercising you will continue to burn calories. This is referred to as 'after-burn', as your metabolism increases for several hours after you exercise, and you burn fat both during exercise and after.

There are many exercises that can be done at home. Below are some examples, why not try them and see what effect they have, combined with a healthy diet, to help you to burn fat fast.

What about Cardio?
It is very important to include cardio in any exercise plan, but it is best to combine the two. The idea is to mix weight training and cardio in a circuit, where you spend 1-5 minutes doing weights and then 1-5 minutes doing cardio, (running or walking fast), then back to weights. Not all of us want to or can afford to join a gym, so how do you do this without a gym?

Cardio and Weight Training … Without The Gym
Can not afford to buy weights and cardio machines for your own home gym? That's ok! The great thing about both cardio and weight training is that you do not need any extras to do them. For cardio, you can run, swim, walk briskly, hike, do jumping jacks. Start walking, and increase the amount you do every couple of day, or, if you have a bicycle, cycle, or a skipping rope, skip. And you can use bags of sugar or bottles of water as weights. However if can afford to join a gym they usually give you recommended workouts for your particular needs, and it is a useful discipline to go regularly and be encouraged by others. Combine healthy eating with exercise and you will loose fat.

Exercise combined with a healthy diet will help you loose those extra pounds.
